Panajachel is a town in the highlands of Guatemala, located in the department of Solola. The village is located on Lake Atitlan, at an altitude of about 1600 meters. Panajachel is the most visited town on the banks of the lake.
It has around eleven thousand citizens, most of them earn their money in the tourism industry. They work in the many hotels, restaurants and bars Panajachel is rich. In the main street, Calle Santander, there are dozens of shops with all kinds of goods for tourists.
Unfortunately, in 2005 hurricane Stan caused widespread damage to the village and swept away many bridges.
